Cable snapped

The most common service call. If this has happened to you then it's not a serious problem for us to repair. It helps us if you can tell us the manufacturer of the door, however, this isn't essential. We always replace BOTH cables as they do stretch so the new ones are slightly shorter than the old and it's important to have them both the same to 'balance' the door.

Cable tangled

If the cable gets tangled up somewhere, usually around the cone or drum it wraps around, then again this is fairly straightforward for us to fix, though some doors are easier than others! The secret to untangling the cable is to remove it from the spindle (the bit that goes into the side tracks and moves up and down with the door). Once removed it can usually be untangled however, putting it back onto the spindle usually requires us to make a service call. Sometimes the cable can be saved once reattached although if it gets an excessive kink in the cable then we do recommend that the cables are replaced.

Cable loose

This usually occurs when the cable has come off the cone or drum  (in the top left and right of the door, at the end of the spring - if there is one). Generally, a service call is required as whilst rectifying it is fairly straightforward, identifying the cause is less so. However, one of the most common reasons why a cable becomes loose is that, whilst the door was being closed (or opened) it hit something on the way down, commonly a wheelie bin! There are other reasons that cause a cable to become loose, the most common is lifting the door to quickly or too high beyond its natural limit.

Cable frayed

The cables are made up of dozens of tiny strands of wire wound together to make the cable and as the cable wears, tiny strands start to snap off, making the cable sharp if you run your hand up and down it (definitely not recommend!). Once this occurs, both cables need replacing (see cable snapped above)
